20 Summer Cocktails with Herbs

20 Summer Cocktails with Herbs

I'm a big fan of sipping on a cold cocktail during the hot summer months and my favourites all have herbs in them. If there's a cocktail with herbs on a menu, that's the one I'll choose. Adding herbs to cocktails adds a depth that the drink wouldn't have otherwise and I think it just makes it taste super fresh. I love being able to make a drink with herbs that I've plucked from the yard and I'm on the hunt for new cocktails to try since we have an established herb garden at the new house. I've ... Scottish Shortbread Christmas Cookie Wedges

Scottish Shortbread Christmas Cookie Wedges

We all know that I'm not a food blogger, but when Christmas comes around I'm all about the cookies. I haven't done a lot of baking in our flat because I'm not comfortable in this kitchen, but I couldn't let another year go by without participating in Natasha's Houseful of Cookies. She's one of my favourite bloggers and if you don't know about We Sow We Grow, you really need to head over to her blog to learn about it and how you can help. When she put the call out for this year's cookies, I knew ... Read More

Lamingtons

Lamingtons

My first introduction to lamingtons was in a New Zealand tea rooms (and yes, the "s" is supposed to be there!). We had favorite tea rooms depending on where we were in the country and they really were such a fantastic lunch--tasty sandwiches, savory rolls and pies, and an always tempting case of desserts. Lamingtons always struck me as such a pretty cake and I always ended up with one on my plate. They take a bit of time to make, but they're so worth it and are the perfect treat for your own ... Bangers and Mash with Onion Cider Gravy

Bangers and Mash with Onion Cider Gravy

Scott and I have been talking a lot about comfort foods lately and how ours often differ--mostly for cultural reasons. Comfort food for me has always included things like meatloaf and macaroni and cheese. Scott's comfort foods are more British--fish pie and bangers and mash. We've gotten pretty good at balancing our different comfort foods and our individual favorites have become family favorites (except for macaroni and cheese--I still haven't found a recipe that Scott loves). I didn't grow up ... Read More

Winter Spiced Cherry Jam Recipe

Winter Spiced Cherry Jam Recipe

We've been into full on comfort food these days, which means lots and lots of baked goods--especially scones. The fun thing about scones in our house is that we can't eat them on their own--we have to have toppings. It's a rule. We were daydreaming about all the cherries we'll eat from our trees this summer and decided to have a go at a winter inspired cherry jam. Cinnamon and clove are my favorite spices and the thought of them paired with cherries sounded perfect, so we tried out a Winter ... Read More

Linguine with Spinach and Shrimp

Linguine with Spinach and Shrimp

We've been in a bit of a food rut lately. It's been cold and grey and we've been eating the same things over and over. We decided that it was time to figure out a new dish that would make all of us happy. After a family poll, shrimp became the protein of choice and spinach is always a favorite green. I'm such a huge pasta fan that it made sense to combine everything into an easy noodle dish. Thus, our Linguine with Spinach and Shrimp was born! Ingredients: 1 lb linguine 1 lb ... Read More
